Discrimination in the Grammys

Races that Are most prominent in the music community, and how the Grammys show that

The Grammy's is an award show that focuses on music. Millions of people watch it each year, and tons of artists get the recognition that they deserve.

I was watching the Grammy's this year and I realized how underrepresented minorities were in the major award categories such as Song of the Year and Album of the Year

So, I decided to take a look at data from the past shows, starting at 2010

I looked at the top 3 most known categories of awards, Best Song, Best Album, and Best New Artist. I found that the race earning the most awards was the Caucasian race. And then coming in second place were African Americans, and then in last, were people of mixed race. That's not a very diverse system. There were only three different races that won the award, and even though one of those races is mixed, the winner was typically only mixed with African, Native American, or Hispanic descent. Now I'm not sure if this is because there just aren't very many diverse artists, or if the system is just biased, but either way, this isn't very good.

Now, these are charts for awards that are not-so-popular

I chose three random categories of the Grammys, those being Best Comedy Album, Best R & B Solo Performance, and Best Vocal Jazz album. Now, as you can see, the winners of these awards are much more diverse. It is still the same three races, Caucasian, Black, and Hispanic, but this time, Caucasians aren't stealing the show like with the more popular awards. Now that leads me to this question: Why are the most known awards won by the least amount of minorities? Is this a coincidence? I think not, but that's also up for you to decide.
